A soldier in the Army was home for the holidays and attended the Mummers parade with his proud mom and girlfriend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As the event was winding down, he was starting to leave when he got a sickening surprise from the crowd, and he never saw it coming.
Lori Freni was excited to have her heroic 19-year-old son Austin home and was soaking in every minute with him until it was time for him to go back to base in Georgia. His homecoming was a surprise to the serviceman’s mom after a stranger paid to fly him home. Lori was struggling to afford the airfare since Austin’s dad recently died of brain cancer and she was out of work due to disability. He attended the annual parade wearing his Army jacket without a clue as to who was watching him, and they waited until he was leaving to show what they were there for.
Austin was heading back to his car with his mom and girlfriend when a group of 10-15 men pounced on the soldier. They saw his Army patch on his jacket and had an issue with his service to our country, so they brutally beat him to the edge of death in front of his loved ones.
“Group of 10-15 guys walked by me (making) derogatory comments towards Austin’s Army jacket,” Lori told Fox 29. “Me and his girlfriend tried pulling them off and they hit us. We got hit in the face. She got thrown in the street,” she explained. “He’s got to get plates put in his jaw and his mouth will be wired shut for the next eight weeks.”
Austin was transported to Jefferson University Hospital with severe facial injuries, which he suffered after being jumped all because he was a serviceman in uniform and also wasn’t able to carry a weapon to defend himself.
A description of the violent group was not provided nor have any arrests been made, and Austin won’t be going back to base for a while. He was supposed to be deployed to the Middle East in less than two months and won’t be doing that now either after suffering a different war at home.
Had he been able to carry a weapon, the outcome would have been different for him and worse for the thugs who attacked him. Soldiers are trusted to defend our country abroad but can’t defend themselves at home against violent enemies empowered by the left and Barack Obama, our current divisive Commander-in-Chief.
