In woodland warfare, good camouflage means everything, no matter if it is used for defensive or offensive purposes. US Marine Brent Downing recorded video to show out how it looks like when a soldier hides in plain sight.
The scarily effective and good camouflage presented by Downing can allow any soldier to stay away from sights and to operate unobserved in different terrains.
Mostly used by recon units to disguise their outline and protect their head from the elements. The soldiers are avoiding to carry anything shiny or straight as both will scream ‘man-made!’ in a natural environment, then they make sure all their gear is easy to hand and put on useful places, as any sort of movement greatly increases the chance of detection.
Marines – and soldiers – are often stay calm for hours while observing the target. It may be painful and unhealthy, so they keep their blood moving by flexing fingers and toes, and rocking their body as slowly as possible over the day and they keep their mind alert by scanning the ground. But, at the end of the day, if the camouflage was useful, their mission accomplished is the only thing that counts.
Take a look at this video and try to identify Marine in the plain sight:
